NC Crunch: Crunch an NC Apple Today!
Join 300,000 North Carolinians by crunching into a juicy, healthy, North Carolina apple today at noon (or anytime that works) in celebration of local food access and Farm to School Month! Take a selfie of your “crunch byte” and post on social media with #NCCrunch.
Across North Carolina, kids and adults will be crunching an apple available from a local farm in October.
This event is about celebrating NC agriculture, National Farm to School Month, apples grown by local farmers, and healthy eating! Buy your NC grown apples at a local farmers’ market in Wake County.
Paula De Lucca, Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Director for Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) said that NC apples will be delivered to school cafeterias as part of the school lunch program this week from two farmers through the NC Farm to School Program. Because it’s challenging to deliver to all schools at the same time, cafeteria managers have the option of serving the apples today or later this week.
