As many of your know, AHA has been working with our local 4-H on mapping access points to food and physical activity in Wake County. The group was recently invited to San Diego to present at an INTERNATIONAL conference on GIS! Check our blog over the next several days to follow ther progress of their trip!
7-9-10 (Friday)
Today was the day we traveled to San Diego! We were supposed to pack our bags and be ready at 3:00 am! We packed our four 4-H shirts and a couple of khakis and slacks for several presentations we are scheduled to complete in California. All five of us were transported to RDU an airport in Raleigh where we checked in and awaited our first flight to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
During our free time in between our flights we prepared our first presentation. It was about how we used the NEMS survey and the PARA assessment to evaluate locations such as convenience stores and parks in our community. Both of these surveys were provided to us by AHA (Advocates for Health in Action). When we finished checking in and finished lunch we immediately began to work on our presentation. It was difficult at first not everybody could remember what to say or what order we were supposed to speak in! But after tons of practice and help from some of our 4-H leaders we began to slowly make progress. I really am nervous about this presentation tomorrow and I really hope we get it together by tomorrow.
