Many times I am asked how folks can get involved in the work of AHA. The answer varies depending on the projects we are working on and the interests of the volunteer. In addition to specific opportunities, I always provide the standard answer of "help us change our culture." People often ask me what that means. Simply put- walk the walk, and talk the talk. Don't expect anyone to do anything you would not do yourself. Lead by example and show others the way to good health through your actions.
Today I present a specific opportunity. The youth who have been working on the mapping project have the opportunity to go to the International GIS Conference to share the good work they have accomplished. These kids are working to change our culture. As you can imagine, sending several students and chaperones across the country for a week is going to cost us some money! We aren't asking you to donate, but we are asking you to volunteer! Here's the scoop: The Cary Duathalon is being held March 20th from 8:30-11:00 am. We need to gather 15 volunteers to man the course, and $500 will be donated to the project! If you are interested in helping us out, just send me an email. I have ordered up good weather, so it should be a great day! Contact me: laiken@wakemed.org
