Sarah Martin, Chair, AHA Board of Directors

Long-time partner Sarah Martin was recently elected Chair of the Advocates for Health in Action (AHA) Board of Directors. Martin has served on AHA’s Board and as chair of its Community Connections Work Group for five years. She has been involved with AHA since its founding in 2007 through Wake County PTA Council.

Martin, who has lived in Wake County for 24 years, also serves as Chair of the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Advisory Board.  A past Treasurer and Federal Legislative Chair of the North Carolina Parent Teacher Association and past president of the Wake County PTA Council, she remains on the Wake PTA Council Board as an at-large member.  As a former certified public accountant with an audit specialty, Sarah brings AHA a wealth of previous experience in the nonprofit sector.

Martin believes that student achievement can be greatly improved by enhancing school wellness initiatives. A member of the Wake County Public School System School Health Advisory Council, Martin is also involved with the NC Alliance for Health, NC Action for Healthy Kids State Steering Team, and the Eat Smart Move More North Carolina Leadership Team.  She is often called upon as a speaker for conferences and workshops on school health matters across the state.

Born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia, Martin earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and moved to Wake County after graduating.
