2015 John Rex Endowment Funding Opportunities
The John Rex Endowment announced its 2015 funding opportunities last week and that it will accept applications for them during any grant award cycle throughout the year. The change is based on John Rex Endowment’s experience that applicants determine when the timing is right for starting a project.
At the beginning of its five-year plan, Our Plan for Impact, 2013-2018, John Rex Endowment identified goals to bring about positive change for Wake County children. Prior or current grantees may also submit applications for expansion grants throughout the year. Below you will find information on each request for proposals.
For the Positive Mental Health goal, funding is directed towards improving the effectiveness and reach of programming in Wake County children’s places and spaces (i.e., community settings where children regularly spend time) that promotes their positive mental health. Full details and requirements are provided in the Positive Mental Health Request for Proposals.
For the Preventing Injury goal, funding is directed towards increasing the number of people and organizations engaged in prevention activities that are effective in preventing injuries that result from the five leading causes of Wake County childhood injury: motor vehicle crashes (children are passengers or drivers), assaults and physical violence; child pedestrians injured by motor vehicles; self-inflicted/self-harm; and falls. Full details and requirements are provided in the Preventing Injury Request for Proposals.
For the Nonprofit Capacity Building goal, funding is focused on building the strength and sustainability of nonprofit organizations that support Wake County children in living healthy lives. Three types of support are available as detailed in each respective Request for Proposals:
- Organizational Assessment grants allow organizations to undergo a comprehensive assessment of current capacities.
- Capacity Building grants provide funding for organizations to implement strategies identified through an organizational assessment process for the purpose of increasing their effectiveness and sustainability.
- Strategic Restructuring grants support two or more organizations assessing the feasibility of and implementation needs for alliances or integrations, such as consolidated administrative functions, shared staff positions, or mergers.
Expansion Grant applications will also be accepted for projects that build or expand on a prior John Rex Endowment assessment, planning, or implementation grant. Requirements and guidelines are outlined in our “Guidelines for Expansion Grant Applications.”
Deadlines are outlined in each request for proposals. If you have questions about these funding opportunities, or the John Rex Endowment online grant management system, contact Gladys Hairston, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-838-1110.
