WakeMed Farmers Market to Open in SE Raleigh June 3-Aug 26
WakeMed Health & Hospitals announced it is opening a new farmers’ market on Tuesdays from 10 am-2 pm, June 3-August 26 at the WakeMed Raleigh Campus at the Central Courtyard. Parking is free at the P1 parking deck for market shoppers, and the hospital is conveniently located on the bus line.
The market will accept cash, credit, debit and EBT/SNAP benefits and offer a 2 for 1 match for EBT shoppers.
After losing three major grocery stores in the past couple of years, Southeast Raleigh has officially become a food desert. WakeMed is starting this farmers market to help increase the population’s access to healthy North Carolina grown fruits and vegetables. The market match for EBT shoppers will help lower income residents stretch their dollars for healthy foods. In addition, cooking demonstrations, dietitian resources, and heart health education will be available at the market.
The market will also provide access to locally grown, healthy foods to the 5,000 WakeMed Raleigh campus employees, some 300 volunteers and thousands of patients and visitors.
