AHA fosters and supports community efforts to make healthy eating and physical activity the way of life in Wake County.

Perspectives: March 2014

Sara Merz, Director

I’m happy to welcome five new members to AHA’s Executive Committee:

They join our other dedicated Executive Committee members who have been so supportive to AHA, and who continue to help educate me. So much work that impacts community health happens outside the sphere of traditional “health” work, which is why we’re broadening our circle of experts to guide our work. Because AHA is focused on policy, systems and environmental change, it is helpful to have their insight, perspective and expertise.  I appreciate their voices in AHA discussions!

This varied expertise was evident at AHA’s 5th Annual Dig In! earlier this month as well.  The speakers were fantastic, with a variety of backgrounds and expertise on urban ag and community gardens. Very few of them were specifically health experts, yet their work truly benefits the health of our community. Check out their presentations if you missed Dig In!

Thanks to all of you for your contribution to this community. Onward!
