Walk and Work: How to Integrate Walking into Business Practices
Join America Walks and Alliance for Biking & Walking for an informative and interactive discussion about Walk and Work: Innovative Ways to Integrate Walking into Workplace and Business Practices on May 17, 2-3 pm. This telephone discussion forum will include:
- A university’s plans to integrate and provide walking and physical activity into the “workstyle” of employees.
- A major health plan’s regional activities to get their employees fit through the physical activity of walking.
- Walking wellness activities. Other call participants will share what’s going on in their workplaces.
- Innovative strategies that YOU can do at your workplace.
Loretta DiPietro, Chair of the Department of Exercise Science at The George Washington University. Dr. DiPietro joined SPHHS in 2008 from Yale University School of Medicine, where she was associate professor of epidemiology and public health and a fellow at the John B. Pierce Laboratory, which studies how biological systems interact with the built environment and their influence on health. As chair of SPHHS’s Department of Exercise Science, Dr. DiPietro emphasizes the many collaborative research and educational opportunities that students can pursue across the GW Medical Center and the entire University.
Sheila Pudiists, Community Director for the Pierce County Health Worksite Program works with Viridian Health Management. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Viridian Health Management have selected Pierce County, WA, as one of seven communities across the country to participate in the National Healthy Worksite Program (NHWP) which is supported by the Affordable Care Act’s Prevention and Public Health Fund. CDC and Viridian are working to identify employers who would benefit from a comprehensive worksite health promotion program.
