Thanks to all in our community who responded to the call for action to sign a petition seeking an opportunity for public comment on the City of Raleigh’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) as it relates to community gardening and urban ag! The City Council has agreed to put the topic back into committee and will hold a hearing, possibly the second week of December. Stay tuned for updates!
AHA has been part of an informal work group has been working to ensure that the UDO enables community gardeners and urban farmers the opportunity to impact public health, food security, economic health and more.
Along with AHA, staff from the Inter-faith Food Shuttle, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, Center for Environmental Farming Systems, Cooperative Extension and interested community members have presented a UDO zoning vision of what this could look like in Raleigh, and as a model for other municipalities.
