Raleigh Parks are Smoke-free!

I cannot think of a better way to start Parks and Recreation month than to celebrate the first day of smoke free parks in Raleigh!  As you may remember, AHA partners lead advocacy efforts in Raleigh to make this very important change to protect the health of park visitors and to eliminate negative role modeling to children and youth visiting the parks. Starting today, park and greenway visitors will be prohibited from smoking anywhere except for the parking lots.

AHA would like to thank Mayor Meeker and the City Council for making this important step toward making the City of Raleigh a healthy place to live, work, and play.  Additionally, we thank the  Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the City of Raleigh staff for ensuring this decision was made with the best information possible. As you visit Raleigh Parks and greenways this weekend to get a little exercise or relaxation to celebrate the fourth of July, we are proud to say that you will be able to breathe a little bit easier, and hopefully see fewer cigarette butts lying on the ground! Happy Parks and Recreation month everyone!
